NHSC Student Loan Reimbursement

Accelerating careers and opportunities

New Oakland is delighted to participate in the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Loan Repayment Program, underscoring our commitment to supporting mental health service clinicians dedicated to serving communities in need. This successful program of the US Department of Health and Human Services has helped bring health professionals to communities that need them while providing an important career benefit to clinicians.

The NHSC Loan Repayment Program offers licensed mental and behavioral health clinicians the opportunity to receive substantial assistance in repaying their student loans. In exchange for a two-year commitment to full-time service at an NHSC-approved site in a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA), clinicians can receive up to $50,000 in loan repayment support. For those opting for half-time service, up to $25,000 is available.

Eligible mental health professionals include:

  • Psychiatrists
  • Health Service Psychologists (HSPs)
  • Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs)
  • Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs)
  • Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs)
  • Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs)
  • Physician Assistants (PAs) specializing in mental health

By joining New Oakland and participating in the NHSC Loan Repayment Program, mental health clinicians can reduce their student debt while making a meaningful impact in underserved communities. We are proud to support our clinicians in this endeavor, fostering both professional growth and community well-being
