With more than 30 years of experience, New Oakland Family Centers is Michigan’s leader in crisis stabilization and mental health services. Guided by a person-centered philosophy, we provide comprehensive, timely care tailored to the unique needs of individuals and families during their greatest moments of need.

New Oakland was established in 1991 by Dr. Ismail Sendi, who had been a visionary child and adolescent psychiatrist and powerful advocate for mental health in Michigan since the early 1960s. Since New Oakland’s early days, our organization has been driven by the mission of providing the right care at the right time, the core of Dr. Sendi’s philosophy that has become New Oakland’s guiding principle. Dr. Sendi’s approach to care emphasized timely, person-centered, and family-oriented mental health services.

This vision has guided New Oakland’s growth into Michigan’s most comprehensive private provider of mental health services . . . from outpatient counseling to more intensive interventions and crisis care. To date, with more than 4.35 million service encounters and more than 200,000 individuals served, we continue to innovate in mental health care. Our emphasis on early intervention and preventive care has shaped a continuum of services, from outpatient therapy to advanced crisis stabilization, ensuring we meet the needs of every individual at their moment of greatest need.
